Fame comes at high price for children of stage parents

by Nicole Rios, staff writer

Some parents will do anything for fame.

Parents can be very selfish. It’s sad to think that  some parents care more about a

paycheck than their children’s well being. These parents are called stage parents.

I’m sure we’ve all heard of child stars who ended up destroying

their lives because they were forced into stardom and were  never allowed to enjoy their

childhood. There are many of them that end up dead early, in jail or in a drug rehab.

Take Lindsey Lohan, for example. She started of on Disney and stared in a

movie called “ The Parent Trap.” The movie was nice and innocent. Later, Lohan was in

and out of rehab, and she even received a DUI.  Her mother, Dina Lohan, is also willing

to give away any information about Lindsey’s issues, drug abuse, eating disorders and

sexual partners in exchange for money.

Michael Jackson, also known as “Wacko Jacko,” is another great example.

He was an amazing child star. His music was very popular, and he had an amazing

voice. He had a talent that many people wish for. Unfortunately, as the years passed, he

grew more and more mentally unstable.  Finally, he lost it, and the media completely

attacked him for his outrageous and extreme behavior.

He also had an amusement park called “Never Land,” where a kid never

has to grow up.  It’s an idea he borrowed from  “Peter Pan”. He even under went plastic surgery to change the color of his skin and to look younger.

Some would say the mental issues were caused by his lack of a childhood.

Jackson was forced by his father into stardom.

Britney Spears is another great example. She was also a part of the Disney

club as a child. Since then, Britney has had to battle many issues from drug abuse, to

marriages gone completely wrong, to eating disorders. Her mother also pushed her

into stardom.

I’m pretty sure we all remember Jon Benet Ramsey. The 6-year-old who was

entered in many beauty pageants, plastered with makeup and told to use a fake French

accent by her mother and was murdered in the basement of her own home on

Dec 26 ,1996.  There are still allegations that her mother knew more about the murder,

than she told police. Patsy Ramsey  died in June of 2006 of ovarian cancer.

There are many other child celebs whose lives were ruined by  stage parents.

It’s insane to think of the extent parents will go to for a little fame and money, even

when it means selling their child out.
