Instructor Biography

I'm a native Texan, and have been teaching for 27 years. I've taught everything from middle school (truly, the Twilight Zone of education), high school, community college, university, and graduate levels, but most of my teaching has been at the community college level. I have also worked for a test publisher as an assessment specialist (remember the TAAS tests?), public school central office staff, and educational consultant. However, I keep coming back to teaching at the community college level. At no other level of education do you find the commitment and focus on students, something I believe is integral to any successful educational institution.

When I'm not teaching, I can usually be found riding my motorcycle - long, long distances. I'm a member of several professional organizations, such as the American Political Science Association, National Council for the Social Studies, and Association of Teacher Educators, as well as several unprofessional organizations like the Iron Butt Association (long distance motorcycle riding) and the ST Owners Club (I ride a Honda ST1300 ABS motorcycle).  In my spare time I like to read, surf the web, tinker in the workshop, scuba dive, and do whatever my wife tells me to do.
