STUDENT OVERVIEW


In High School, you need to:

  • Enroll for each articulated course via the CATEMA system. (An articulated course is one that has state approval at your high school to count as technical college credit at South Plains College when you meet Tech Prep credit criteria.)
  • Develop a high school graduation plan with your counselor
  • Earn an 80 or above in any Tech Prep courses. You will receive a certificate of completion and an application for Tech Prep credit at South Plains College
  • Read Technical Career Guide student newsletter and provide to your parents


South Plains College Requirements
for Receiving Tech Prep Credit:

  • Achieve mastery of the content-enhanced Tech Prep high school course by earning a minimum grade of 80 (3.0 or higher).
  • Enroll at South Plains College within 15 months of high school graduation, meeting all admission requirements (College Catalog-Admissions).
  • Submit a completed high school transcript, showing the Tech Prep courses taken in high school.
  • Tech Prep articulated course should have a letter "A" after course abbreviation on high school transcript indicating Tech Prep class. Check with your high school counselor to be sure your transcript has coded Tech Prep courses correctly.
  • Inform college counselors and faculty advisors of your Tech Prep status and provide your application for Tech Prep credit to the registrar at the college. South Plains Tech Prep will mail this application and a Technical Career Guide to your home when you complete a Tech Prep course. This application is also available from the registrar or online at www.southplainscollege.edu/techprep
  • Successfully complete 6 semester hours of college level work at South Plains College. (Dual credit, CLEP examinations and/or AP credit may count for the 6 hours.)
  • Articulated courses should appear in the college catalog and be included in the technical certificate or degree plan declared by the student.
  • Check college transcript upon completion of 6 semester hours to verify articulated Tech Prep courses from high school have been added.
  • Tech Prep is not the same as dual credit taken in high school. Take advantage of both.
  • Tech Prep credit may transfer to some, but not all, four-year universities.
All college credit will be held in escrow until the student meets the above criteria. No tuition or fees are charged for the articulated courses.
