It's Your Life! Live it Your Way!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Chances are a lot of people are telling you what you should be when you grow up. But everybody is different and there are so many new and exciting jobs available now. Tech Prep won't tell you what to do with your life. Instead, we offer you ideas from which to choose. We can help you figure out what's right for you and for your future.

How can we help?

Tech Prep can help you by providing choices, ideas, and directions. We want you to learn about jobs: what you do on the job, how much money you can make, and how you should be trained. We bring together what you learn in your classroom with work-based experiences. The goal is to get you out of the classroom and into the real world--while you are still in school--so you can see how the subjects you learn in class apply to different careers.

Why Tech Prep?

Unless you've been living in a cave, you already know our world is changing. The work world of your parents isn't going to be the same work world for you. Global competition and new technologies are radically changing the workplace. Many jobs your parents had when they finished school either no longer exist or are vastly different than what you could get today. Eighty per cent of all jobs will require education beyond high school and training in technical fields.

Tech Prep can give you a head start. Tech Prep programs provide you with skills you will need on the job. Earn free college credit for Tech Prep classes you take in high school. Many programs offer 12-15 hours of free college credit at community colleges across the state, giving you up to a semester of work toward an associate degree.

But learning doesn't have to end there. You can continue on to earn you bachelor's degree at a four-year college. You can choose what is right for you at different times in your life. Tech Prep can give you the tools to make these choices.

From classroom to career.

In high school, students may have the chance to get paid for learning through an internship program or, with the help of local business, they may participate in a "shadowing" project in which they follow a worker performing on-the-job duties for a single day. They may also attend a regional interactive career fair where they can explore many occupational options in the region.

You have a right to a good life.

You have just as much right to a good life as your parents and your grandparents. Food, clothes and a good place to live all take money. Money that's there for you if you're willing to work.

Find out how you can learn the real world skills you'll need to get a good job, make money, live a good life and contribute to our community.
