SPC Denver City Center to offer CNA training starting Jan. 28
DENVER CITY – South Plains College Denver City Center will offer Certified Nurse Aide Training from Jan. 28 through March 1 at the center, 500 N. Ave. C. Classroom instruction will be presented on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 5:45 p.m. to 10 p.m. Clinical instruction will be conducted from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays at the Shinnery Oaks Community. The tuition costs $425. The class will use the textbook “Skills and Techniques for the New Nursing Assistant Eighth Edition.” The textbook cost is $57. Students have the option of going on contract to help with payments for an additional $30 fee. CPR Certification fee is $15 online. The instructor will be Joyce Tedford, R.N.
Students must provide proof of immunization for MMR since 1981, Tetanus no older than 8 years, Hepatitis B Series and a current negative TB test no older than 6 months prior to the first class. Students also must have valid state issued photo identification and social security card prior to enrollment. A criminal background check will be performed for all students.
Students will learn a method of instruction providing detailed education, training and work-based experience, and direct patient/client care generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty.
On-site clinical instruction, supervision, evaluation and placement are the responsibility of the college faculty. Clinical experiences are unpaid external learning experiences. Students learn the necessary skills to work in long-term care, home health or hospital environments. Upon completion of the 60 hours of classroom and 40 hours of clinical instruction, each student will be required to take the State of Texas Certified Nurse Aide Competency Examination.
