PLANNING FOR 2014 SCHOLARSHIP GALA NOW UNDERWAY

LEVELLAND – This year’s Scholarship Gala hosted by the South Plains College Foundation and corporate host City Bank will draw its inspiration from the success of South Plains College students and the opportunities scholarships create for them.

The 16th annual event is scheduled Saturday, March 1 on the campus of South Plains College. Doors open to guests at 6:00 p.m. at the Physical Education Complex for a reception and viewing of silent and live auction items. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Gala organizers are seeking to raise more than $200,000 in scholarship support for next year’s SPC students.

“For many of our students, South Plains College provides the only opportunity available for them to prepare for the future,” said Dr. Kelvin Sharp, president of the college. “The college’s desire to expand this opportunity highlights the critical need for more scholarship funds for future and current SPC students. That’s the purpose of the Scholarship Gala, and we are grateful that so many businesses and individuals are planning to join us in this important effort.”

Promoted as “A World of Opportunities,” the Scholarship Gala will include exceptional entertainment by the students and faculty of the Creative Arts and Fine Arts Departments.

“Gala participants will remember an outstanding performance presented last year by our talented students and faculty,” said Julie Gerstenberger, director of development. “This group is back by popular demand and are planning an exciting and entertaining show.”

Participants will also be treated to a gourmet dinner, recognition of this year’s Pacesetter recipients, live and silent auctions and dinner entertainment from the South Plains Big Band and Dance Orchestra, all of which benefit scholarships at South Plains College.

City Bank has joined the SPC Foundation in helping support the event as gala host. Great Western Dining, Inc., is this year’s event underwriting partner.

Diamond level underwriting sponsors include ARMKO Industries, Benchmark Business Solutions, Eagle Rubber and Supply, Hockley County School Employees Credit Union, Lattimore Farms, the Musslewhite Family, Macha Insurance Agency, Smith South Plains Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, South Plains Community Action Association, Worley Welding Works, G&C Contracting with Ag Products, McCutchin Construction with ZM Interiors, Wade and Lori Wilson, and Xcel Energy.

“Last year, more than 550 people joined the college, our underwriting sponsors and the Foundation in raising funds for college scholarships,” said Gerstenberger. “We want to involve even more people in this year’s gala and top the $181,000 that was raised for scholarships last year. We are seeing a lot of early support from the community with 378 seats already reserved.”

Individual benefactor tickets are $100 per person and can be obtained from the South Plains College Development Office. Various levels of sponsorship and participation are available to interested businesses and individuals, Gerstenberger said. The table sponsorship levels include Underwriting Partner, $5,000; Diamond Level, $2,000; Platinum Level, $1,000; Gold Level, $800; and Silver Level, $400.

Platinum level sponsors include AIM Bank, BGR Architects and Engineers, Levelland News-Press, Coldwell Banker-Paxton Real Estate, Amazing Space Storage Solutions, Mike Box, Earl and June Gerstenberger, Dr. Alice White, Larry and Helen Roberts, Mike Mamantov Ameriprise Financial Services, the Jim Belcher Family, and Dr. Wiri and Dr. Suvipa Wiriyathian.

Gold level sponsors include Levelland Independent School District, Keeling Insurance with KLVT Radio and Success Lake SEO. Plains Motor Supply is a silver level sponsor.

“As in the past, we are expecting a number of local businesses and individuals to join in our scholarship effort,” said Gerstenberger. “Gala Committee members are helping plan and develop involvement. We are very appreciative of the support we are receiving.”

A reception will open the evening’s activities, followed by a five-course gourmet dinner served at tableside. “Our Gala Committee is planning an enjoyable evening of fine dining, great fellowship and outstanding entertainment,” said Gerstenberger.

Opportunities to donate directly to scholarship funds will be provided during the event. For more information about table sponsorships or tickets, contact the SPC Development Office at (806) 716-2019.
