SPC to offer metal enameling class in February
LEVELLAND – South Plains College’s Division of Continuing and Distance Education will offer a new course in Metalsmithing – Enameling. The cost is $120 plus $27 for supplies.
The class will meet from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays starting Feb. 2, Feb. 9, Feb. 16, Feb. 23 and March 2 in the Fine Arts building Room 127. Enrollment is limited to 12 students.
In this class, students will learn sifting techniques, stenciling techniques and Champlevé techniques. Each student will make sample pieces and create pieces of their own design. We will work in a fully functioning metals studio and a basic tool kit will be provided for use during the course. No previous metalworking or enameling experience is required.
The instructor will be Sean Scully, MFA, a graduate of South Plains College and Texas Tech University. He earned his MFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing at Kent State. In 2010, Scully was named the metals recipient of “The State of the MFA in Ohio.” His work has been included in local, regional, national and international shows as well as in Lark Book’s “500 Enameled Objects.”
