SPC announces new metalworking class

 

LEVELLAND – South Plains College’s Division of Continuing and Distance Education will offer a Lost Wax Casting class in March. Enrollment is limited to 12 students.

The class will meet from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays March 23, March 30, April 6, April 13 and April 20 in the Fine Arts building Room 127. The cost is $120 plus $25 for supplies. For a list of supplies, contact Kasey Reyes, administrative assistant, at (806) 716-2341.

Student will learn how to create wax models to cast in metal; additive, subtractive and substitutive model making processes will be presented. Student will learn how to prepare their model for casting. Models will be cast in bronze or silver for an additional cost. Students will clean and finish their work. A basic tool kit will be provided for the student’s use during the course, and the class will be held in a fully functioning metals studio. No previous metalworking experience is required.

The instructor will be Sean Scully, MFA, a graduate of South Plains College and Texas Tech University. He earned his MFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing at Kent State. In 2010, Scully was named the metals recipient of “The State of the MFA in Ohio.” His work has been included in local, regional, national and international shows, and included in Lark Book’s “500 Enameled Objects.” Contact Scully at (806) 535-6087 or email him at sscully@southplainscollege.edu.
