SPC Natatorium announces swim schedule
LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Natatorium announces its summer swim schedule with registration set for 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday (May 7) and Wednesday (May 8). Enrollment is limited for each class.
Payment is due at the time of registration. Late registration is slated for June 3 at 1:30 p.m. during open swim.
For a parent who is unsure of his or her child’s swim level, he/she is encouraged to bring the child with a swim suit for testing during registration.
Swim classes will cost $45 per person. Classes will meet Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Classes that may be cancelled due to bad weather such as lightning will be made up on Fridays. Mike Harrison, swim instructor and director of the Natatorium, will teach the classes.
Beginner Swimming is for youngsters age six and older. Participants must be at least six years-old. Students will be taught swimming on the front, back and floating in deep water. Times and dates are:
June 10 – June 20 9-9:50 a.m.
June 10 – June 20 11-11:50 a.m.
July 8 – July 18 10-10:50 a.m.
July 22 – Aug 1 10-10:50 a.m.
Advanced Beginner is for students who have passed beginner swimming. Students will learn elementary back strokes, diving and improve crawl strokes.

July 8 – July 18 11-11:50 a.m.
July 22 – Aug 1 11-11:50 a.m.
Intermediate Swimming is for students who have passed advanced beginner. Students will learn breast and side strokes.
July 8 – July 18 9-9:50 a.m.
Swimmer classes are for students who have passed intermediate. Students will learn starts and flip turns for competitive swimming.
July 22 - Aug 1 9-9:50 a.m.
Parent/child class is for young children ages 6 months to 6 years. Non potty trained youngsters must wear rubber pants or swim diapers. Adults must accompany each child in the water. The emphasis of the class is water adjustment and interaction between parent and child. Older children will be progressed through swim skills. Classes are three weeks and meet on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday for 30 minutes. Cost is $25.
Monday and Wednesday June 10 – June 26 1-1:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday June 11 – June 27 1-1:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday July 8 – July 25 1-1:30 p.m.
The Natatorium also offers Community Classes for adult beginners, water aerobics, early bird swim, deep or shallow water aerobics and arthritis. For details, contact Harrison at (806) 716-2499.
Member swim times will be Open Swim – Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m.; Lap Swim – Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m. and MWF from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.; and Family Swim will be Mondays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Membership rates are for individuals -- $75 for summer or $150 year; couples (husband/wife only) $100 summer or $200 year; SPC family $75 annually and Hockley County seniors are free; family (mom/dad/two children) $150 summer or $300 year with $25 each additional child summer or $50 each additional child year; and guest rates are $3 per person with a limit of two.

The pool will open June 3 and close Aug. 8. The pool will be closed July 4.
