SPC Byron to offer Pharmacy Tech Test Preparation on class May 27
LEVELLAND – South Plains College Byron Martin Technology Center will offer an EKG Monitor Tech course from 6 to 9 p.m. starting May 27 through July 17 in Room 143 of the center, located at 3201 Ave. Q.
The cost of the course is $336 for tuition and fees. Participants can earn 48 hours or 4.8 Continuing Education Units. Nicole Aldridge will be the instructor. Students will use the textbook “The Pharmacy Tech Certification and Review and Workbook,” fourth edition.

This is a test preparation review course for pharmacy technicians who will be taking the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. The course is designed to augment on-the-job training or provide an individual who has extensive knowledge with the tools to successfully complete the national exam. This is an introductory course where highly motivated individuals willing to spend a significant amount of outside class time in memorization and other study techniques can also benefit. Subjects covered include pharmacology, safety, terminology, packing, dispensing, distribution, inventory management, pharmacy law, reading prescriptions, pharmacy math including aliquots, ratios and proportions, calculating percentages, ratio strengths, business math, calculating IV flow rates, and any other related topics.
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCB) is available throughout the year. There are further costs that are not included in the price of this course. There is a fee of $62 to receive a Pharmacy Technician in Training License which the student will be responsible for paying www.tsbp.tx.state.us directly. There is a fee of $50 for finger printing which the student will be responsible for paying identogo.com directly. Students must have their trainee license before the last class. PTCB requires that examinees have a high school diploma or GED and have never been convicted of a felony. The meeting dates for this class are subject to change by the instructor. Students must pay the $140 exam fee directly to PTCB.
The Pharmacy Tech Test Preparation Clinical will cost $47 for tuition and fees. Participants can earn 100 hours or 10 Continuing Education Units. Nicole Aldridge will be the instructor. Students will use the textbook “The Pharmacy Tech Certification and Review and Workbook,” fourth edition.
This is a health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.
As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry. No refunds will be given for criminal background checks and liability insurance. The Lab Recommended Licensure/Certification Agency is the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists; Pharmacy Technician Certification Board; and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
