    Spaces available in upcoming phlebotomy course at SPC

    LEVELLAND – Eight spaces are available in the upcoming Basic Phlebotomy course starting Nov. 11. The class will meet through Dec. 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays in Technical Arts Room 124.

    The 24 hours of clinicals will be arranged. The cost is $415. The textbook, “The Complete Textbook of Phlebotomy,” Fourth Edition by Lynn B. Hoeltke, will cost $115. The instructor will be Georgia Mulloy.

    Classroom and clinical instruction in skill development of blood collection methods will be provided. To become certified, participants must complete 50 sticks.

    Participants will develop skills in a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions. The students will use vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children and infants.

    Students must provide proof of immunization for MMR, Tetanus no older than 8 years, Hepatitis B Series, and have a current negative TB test no older than 6 months, photo identification and social security card. A criminal background check will be performed for all students.

    Participants who satisfactorily complete the course will receive a certificate for 4.8 Continuing Education Units and 48 contact hours of instruction. Enrollment limited to 10 students. Students must be at least 18 years of age.
