Phlebotomy course at SPC begins Monday

 

LEVELLAND – South Plains College will offer Basic Phlebotomy Session One course starting Monday (Jan. 28) and runs through Feb. 15. The class will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays in Technical Arts Room 112. Clinicals will be arranged. The cost is $415. The textbook will cost $115.

Classroom and clinical instruction in skill development of blood collection methods will be provided.

Participants will develop skills in a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions. The students will use vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children and infants.

Participants must provide proof of immunization for MMR, Tetanus no older than 8 years, Hepatitis B Series, and have a current negative TB test no older than 6 months, photo identification and social security card. A criminal background check will be performed for all students. Enrollment limited.
