SPC to host District 3 SkillsUSA contest Feb. 21-22
LEVELLAND – South Plains College will host the District 3 SkillsUSA Contest on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 21-22) on the Levelland campus. The event features approximately 400 students representing high school teams from across the Panhandle.
The two-day contest is designed to measure the skills of students in the areas of automotive services, automotive collision, broadcasting, building search, automotive refinishing, cosmetology skills, culinary, diesel service, electronics technology, TV production and welding.
Other skills include computer maintenance, crime scene, felony traffic stop, internetworking, telecommunication cabling and residential maintenance. And, in the leadership category, contestants will be judged on T-shirt and Texas Pin Designs.
In 2011 when SPC hosted the event, the college awarded 10 scholarships at $500 for senior level students who won their categories. SPC again will award the scholarships.
The district winners are eligible to compete in the state conference in summer 2014.
