Recent Happenings

December Academy 

Students and parents attended the first-ever, SPC Upward Bound Orientation.  Both groups completed needs assessment activities upon which upcoming activities will be based.  We ended with a luncheon honoring our newly selected participants.

January Academy             21 participants and 1 “UB Newbie” completed personality assessments and learned about logos and the library.   We had to save our games for another time, though, due to SNOW!

PARENT INFORMATION

This section will be used to provide information on topics identified as “need to know” during the December Parent Orientation.

Question:  What classes does my child need to take to be on the college track?

Answer:  There are 3 diploma plans in the state of Texas:  minimum, recommended and distinguished.  College bound students should be on the recommended or distinguished plan.  The Upward Bound staff will verify that all our students are on one of those two plans.

FIELD TRIP

We will meet at regular time on Feb. 7, and we will be taking a field trip. We are going to take a SPC bus and visit the Science Spectrum and Omnimax Theatre. We will leave at 10:00 a.m. and return by 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Don’t forget to wear your Upward Bound t-shirt.

We would like to welcome Sara Wright to our Upward Bound family. Sara lives in Whiteface and is a junior at Whiteface High School. Her hobbies include reading, shopping, cooking, and hanging out with friends.
