JANUARY ACADEMY INFORMATION:

8:10-8:25 a.m. Go to the TECHNOLOGY CENTER (COMPUTER LAB) to get binders and daily schedules

8:30 a.m. 1 st session starts

3:30 p.m. Parents or buses pick up students in front of the TECHNOLOGY CENTER (COMPUTER LAB)

 

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER ACADEMY HIGHLIGHTS

Upward Bound welcomed guest speakers at both the November and the December Academies. In November SPC instructor Cat Steinhauer provided seniors with tips on writing essays for college and scholarship applications. At the December meeting Glenda Hensley from SPC's Financial Aid Office oriented seniors and their parents to the process of applying for financial aid. Sophomores broadened their horizons during a diversity workshop led by SPC Multicultural Services Coordinator / Diversity Counselor Gracie Quinonez and SPC Technical Counselor Maria Lopez Strong. Other activities during the day included workshops dedicated to planning a budget, managing time, and the habits of effective college students and teens. Computer assisted instruction supplied college and career selection opportunities, TAKS and ACT test practice materials, and study skills activities.

 

PARENT INFORMATION

• Thanks to the parents of seniors who attended the Financial Aid Orientation. If you were not able to attend, please feel free to contact the Upward Bound office with any questions.
• Tutoring services sponsored by Upward Bound are now underway in the towns that we serve. Attendance at assigned tutoring sessions is required, and any absences must be reported in advance by the student's parent for the absence to be excused . Tutoring assignments are based on grades, and students may also request a tutor as needed.
• All absences must be reported in advance so the absence can be excused. The sooner we know about the absence, the better we are able to plan our activities. Thank you for cooperating with this matter.
