The next Saturday Academy will be on October 2, 2004. Remember that Saturday Academies begin at 8:30 am.

POLICY REMINDERS/ UPDATES

*Absences:            

To have an absence excused,  parents must send written notification or call the Upward Bound office before 8:00 a.m. the day of any Saturday Academy. 

*Reminder:        Send copies of your report cards, or you will not be able to receive your stipend on time. You can fax them in at 894-2594, Attn: Margaret.

*Announcements? Please call the UB office to let Margaret know so that it can be posted in the newsletter.

Congratulations to Nae Washington on becoming Levelland High School’s 2004-2005 Homecoming Queen.   Elisha Galindo has been running Cross Country for the Brownfield High School Lady Cubs.

We would like to take this time to welcome Jorge Zamora to the Upward Bound staff. Jorge is from McAllen, Texas, and currently resides in Lubbock. Jorge is taking on three of the six schools that we service, which are Littlefield, Whiteface, and Morton.

SEPTEMBER ACADEMY NEWS

 

Upward Bound welcomed twenty-two participants and thirty-one candidates to the September 11 Academy!  Topics included assessment activities for first-time attendees, an introduction to the Seven Habits of Highly Effective College Students for the seniors, and on-line Academic Advancement activities for returning juniors and seniors.  Juniors, sophomores, and freshman were introduced to the Cornell note-taking system in study skills seminars.  All students had the chance to get to know each other and to celebrate their unique characteristics in a self-awareness workshop.

 

Thank you all for your contributions and for making the first Saturday Academy of 2004-2005 a success!

 

ATTENTION PARENTS OF UPWARD BOUND CANDIDATES

 

Please plan to attend the New Student/Parent Orientation to be held Saturday, October 2, 2004, from 3:15 – 3:45 p.m.  We will explain the purpose of Upward Bound and the benefits your child receives through participating in the program.  It will be a great opportunity to ask questions and to get help with the Upward Bound student application.  We hope to see you there!

 

Parents of returning students are also welcome to attend the New Student/Parent Orientation.  We welcome the opportunity for you to share your experiences as an Upward Bound parent.
