SURVEY ANALYSIS
Employee Survey Results
July 2002

The following is a summary of the results of the South Plains College Employee Survey conducted in the spring of 2002. The survey consisted of 50 statements scored one to six on a strongly-disagree, strongly-agree, or not applicable scale. One question asked respondents to identify which employee group best identified them. The 2000 survey instrument discontinued the "student services" category and combined those employees with "professional non-faculty" or "classified." Three additional questions allowed employees an opportunity to expand on issues or voice opinions on issues not covered in the survey.

QUESTIONS:
Arithmetic means were calculated for each scaled statement; those left unanswered or in which a six (not-applicable) was entered were not included in calculating means. Survey statements were always worded such that lower means (disagree or strongly-disagree) indicate area where improvement is needed.

SUB-SCALES:
In addition to tracking the responses to each statement individually, the initial thirty-five statements were divided into eight major sub-scales. These sub-scales were then tracked using a weighted mean score for the statements in each sub-scale. The sub-scales used were:

GROUPS:
Responses were tracked by employee group on each of the 50-scaled statements. Respondents were grouped as Administration, Faculty, Classified, and Professional Non-Faculty. The combined response for "All" employees of SPC is also included for each statement or sub-scale.

ACCURACY:
Means are reported in tables and charts to the nearest tenth point. Given the small sample sizes for the groups and sub-scales this is the last significant digit. Comparison charts between the survey years are plotted to the nearest tenth point.
