July 2002
Dedication to students remains the most positive factor about South Plains College as seen by the employees of the college. This follows a pattern set over the last eight years this survey has been in use. Our family atmosphere remains a solid second place positive factor as it has over the past six years Employees feel that relationships between and in the departments is a third positive factor.
Employees again feel that areas of needed improvement are, in order of importance, pay, better kept or new facilities, more/better care to students, better communication, more/better technology, administrative issues, departmental relations, parking, and issues between the Levelland and Reese campuses. While better pay topped the list of things needed improved, only 90 respondents cited this issue, down from 188 in 2000. The 2000 survey showed that 227 respondents wanted better kept or newer facilities (the number one concern) opposed to the 2002 survey showing 72 respondents concerned about facilities (the number two concern).
As in years past those employees categorizing themselves as "administration" continue to be more positive in their responses. The 2000 survey was the first to combine the "student services" category into professional non-faculty and/or classified. Faculty, Classified Personnel, and Professional Non-Faculty are very close in their assessments of the institution. In an overall assessment of the 2002 survey the only area SPC declined is in rewards and recognition. The greatest gain over past surveys is in cooperation and teamwork.
This is the first employee survey to be conducted "on line." There is an approximate 20% increase in respondents to the 2002 survey over the 2000 survey.
