PHILOSOPHY

South Plains College makes a special effort to encourage a friendly and democratic atmosphere among all students, faculty, staff, and administration. of Student activities are planned to enhance the academic, social, cultural, and religious interests of the student body. The college offers a variety of co-curricular experiences, which will assist the student in developing a rich concept of his life's potential. A varied program of activities open to all members of the student body is implemented through the coordinated programs of a number of organizations, each of which offers opportunities for the student to explore his interests. Members of the student personnel staff assist in administering these activities.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

It is the intent of South Plains College to provide an environment in which the student cannot only grow academically, but also socially. By participating in group activities, a student can experience leadership, organization, and social interaction. Being a member of a club or organization will be fun, but it is also a learning experience.

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Organization of Clubs

Organizations will select a faculty sponsor who will meet with the club and assist with the general functions of that organization.

Formation of New Clubs

New student organizations may be formed on the campus as the need develops. No group may be officially formed until it has been approved by the Student Government, Student Body President, and the Director of Student Activities. A petition for approval must be submitted first to the office of the Director of Student Activities who then will forward it. The petition must set forth:

1. The objective of the organization.
2. Membership requirements.
3. Proposed constitution.
4. Signature of Faculty sponsor or sponsors.
5. Signature of minimum of fifteen petitioners.

HANDLING OF ORGANIZATIONAL FUNDS

All organizations with funds must open an account in the Business Office (Administration Building) and deposit all funds in this account. Withdrawals from this account or payment of organizational bills may be accomplished by submitting to the Business Office a requisition form in triplicate at least three days in advance. The withdrawal must be approved by the Club President and sponsor. The requisition form may be obtained in the Business Office.

APPROVAL OF CLUB SPONSORED ACTIVITIES

1. Any recognized student group may sponsor an organizational or all college social event.
2. A request for authorization of a special event must be made no later than on Wednesday one week prior to the event.
3. A request is made by submitting a request form to the Director of Student Activities. This form may be secured in the Student Center, from Director of Student Activities.
4. Upon approval by the Director of Student Activities, the approved request will be placed on the activities calendar.
5. Authorization may not be granted if the event is in conflict with an event already on the college calendar.
6. Further arrangements for an event following authorization is the responsibility of the sponsoring organization. However, all organizations are encouraged to contact the Director of Student Activities for additional suggestions, direction, and assistance.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

The Director of Student Activities Office is responsible for maintaining a current list of recognized clubs and organizations.

ANNUAL TRADITIONAL EVENTS
