South
Plains College
Welcome to our
Biology Department
|
 |
| The Biology Department at South Plains College provides students with
the first two years of basic college course work in the biological
sciences. As a freshman and sophomore at SPC, students receive the
fundamental instruction which leads to an associate of science
degree. Students are then able to transfer successfully to a
university to complete a bachelor's degree. |
 |
The curricula in the Biology Department at SPC allows students to prepare for
a career in traditional biological and health science areas. Students are
also able to meet degree and entrance requirements for professional
schools. For a complete list of curricula offered, see button above.
|
| The facilities in the Biology Department are excellent and feature
instructional equipment and labs designed to help the student succeed in
their studies. Lecture rooms are equipped with computers and projectors,
so that most instructors use PowerPoint presentations. Modern,
comfortable laboratories facilitate a personal interaction between
students and faculty. The labs also feature a closed circuit
camera system that enables the student to see demonstrations by the
instructor both of microscope work and dissections. |
 |
| Extensive plant and animal collections allow the students the
opportunity to explore life sciences in detail. The natural
history collection features more than 300 study skins of a wide variety
of mammals, as well as lifelike taxidermy mounts, plus preserved
specimens of many native amphibians and reptiles. Students also
have access to two greenhouses . |
