LEVELLAND – South Plains College will host a Guitar Festival from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 21 (Saturday) in the SPC Creative Arts Building.

The event is free and open to the public. Guitarists of all levels are invited to attend.

According to Brent Wheeler, assistant professor of Commercial Music, “The event is designed to provide tips to improve an individual’s overall guitar playing.”

At the start of each hour, the workshops will feature two guitar clinicians who will work on scales, chords and playing in a band. The instructors include SPC guitar faculty members Wheeler; Sonny Borba, program coordinator and instructor in Commercial Music; Mark Walney, instructor in Commercial Music; Steve Williams, associate professor in Commercial Music; Darren Welch, instructor in Commercial Music. Also, Emily Wheeler and two of her students from Texas Tech University – Jacob Nalle and Cameron Baker, will conduct workshops.

The highlight of the event will be a concert at 5 p.m. featuring all of the instructors.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to view different kinds of guitars at the event.
