Admission

 Apply to South Plains College and complete all requirements for college admission

 Be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or hold a GED diploma

 Must be TSI (Texas Success Initiative) complete

Complete an application form for admissions to the program.

Applicants must have completed a course equivalent to the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers during the previous two years.

 Must provide evidence of immunizations prior to registration.

In order to perform clinical rotations, students will undergo a criminal background check after the first day of class. Any candidate with a criminal record should discuss their specific case with the Program Director.

Proof of compliance with the following immunization requirements prior to the first day of class.
In order to meet the requirements of the Texas Administrative Code, Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 97
Subchapter B, rule §97.64 all immunization requirements must be met prior to any patient contact in the clinical setting.
These immunizations include:
o   Tetanus-diphtheria (within last 10 years)
o   Measles (two doses, preferably MMR vaccine)
o   Mumps (MMR vaccine preferred)
o   Rubella (MMR vaccine preferred)
o   Hepatitis B Immunizations (3 injection series requiring 3-4 months to complete)
o   Varicella (chicken pox)
o   Influenza (within the last 12 months)


o   TB testing (within the last 12 months)
 
The student is required to complete a criminal background check prior to the first day of class. This criminal background is required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO) and based on JCAHO Standard H.R. 1.20. the student will be required to submit your name and social security number to certifiedbackground.com  and will be assessed a fee for the report by certifiedbackground.com at the time of application.  If any information regarding your past criminal history is unacceptable by our clinical sites and/or JCAHO standard H.R. 1.20, you may be denied permission to continue in the clinical aspect of the course course.  Final decision will be made by the Program Director in coordination with the clinical sites, and Dean of Allied Health.
