Applying for financial aid, each student accepts certain rights and responsibilities.  Failure to comply with the student’s responsibilities may result in the cancellation or reduction of the student’s financial aid. 


Students have the right to know:

  • Available financial aid programs;
  • Deadlines for submitting applications for each of the programs;
  • How financial need is determined;
  • Requirements for continued eligibility;
  • Cost of attending SPC;
  • Resources considered in calculating the individual financial need;
  • SPC’s refund policy;
  • Financial aid disbursement procedures;
  • What portion of the financial aid received must be repaid and what portion is grant aid;
  • Source and amount of each type of aid that is offered;
  • Details regarding any loan offered;                                                
  • General conditions and terms under the college work-study program; and
  • Financial aid appeal procedure.


It is the student’s responsibility to:

  • Check his/her SPC email on a regular basis;
  • Inform the Financial Aid Office of any changes in enrollment status;
  • Meet satisfactory academic progress requirements for each term the student receives funding;
  • Be enrolled in at least 1 college level credit course each semester;
  • Complete all application forms accurately and submit them on time;
  • Provide correct information (misreporting information on financial aid forms is a violation of the law and may be considered a criminal offense);
  • Use financial aid funds solely for educational purposes;
  • Promptly return all additional documentation, verification, corrections, and new information requested by the Financial Aid Office or the agency to which you submitted your application;
  • Inform the Financial Aid Office of any name, address, or Social Security number change;
  • Read, understand, and keep copies of all forms that she/he signs; and
  • Repay all loans according to the terms agreed upon at the time the loan was accepted and the promissory note signed.
