  • Selection of a major
  • Advisement during the registration process
  • Monitoring of academic performance
  • Help in answering transfer questions

Tutoring is the STAR Center component that attracts most students to the program. Through tutoring services students receive:

  • One-on-one peer tutoring
  • Group tutoring
  • Sessions tailored to meet the needs of the student

Success Workshops

Once a month the STAR Center offers workshops to provide students with specific skills and experiences designed to enhance personal and academic growth. Workshop topics include the following:

  • Study Skills (note-taking, test-taking, research exploration, time management)
  • Stress Management
  • Financial Aid Renewal Process
  • Job Skills (Interviewing, Job Search)

Support Services

Transition into the college environment can be challenging for some students. The STAR Center works to ease this adjustment by providing support in the following areas:

  • Advising students in regard to the transition and adjustment process to campus life
  • Making referrals to campus/community resources for personal counseling
  • Encouraging involvement in the social and cultural activities of the program

Computer Lab

STAR Center students have full access to a private computer lab. This lab contains computers equipped with the latest software. The lab is a valuable resource to use for:

  • Completion of homework assignments
  • Internet research
  • Improving basic skill areas
  • Career exploration

College visits

Every semester the STAR Center schedules campus tours to local colleges and universities. The one-day tours allow students to tour the campus and visit college representatives from various departments. They are structured to provide key information to help students decide on a transfer university. Students who attend are excused from classes for that day because it is a school sponsored activity.
