Q. What is the daily class schedule for the AST Program at SPC?

A. Full time Automotive Technology students attend classes Monday through Friday generally from 8:00 am to 2:45 pm. Alternating days may include classes from 12:00 to 5:00 pm

Q. How long does it take to complete the program?

A. It takes two semesters to complete the Basic Certificate and two semesters to complete the Advanced Certificate. The Associate Degree can be completed in four semesters. Each semester is sixteen weeks long. The Fall semester begins in August and ends in December, and the Spring semester begins in January and ends in May.

Q. Are there other degree options for Automotive Technology graduates?

A.  Yes. Courses can be taken to prepare for a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University

Q. Can I take Automotive Technology classes in the summer?

A. The program in Levelland does not offer classes in the summer at this time.

Q. Does South Plains College have a Job Placement Service?

A. Yes.

Q. How much time will I spend in the classroom and in the lab?

A. AST students spend approximately 15% of their time in the class room and 85% in the lab.

Q. Will I be “ASE certified” when I graduate from South Plains College?

A.  Automotive students are scheduled to take two ASE tests each semester.  At the end of the program, a student can possibly pass all eight ASE test areas, and after one more year of experience in the field, become an ASE Master Certified Technician.
