About the 2021 Scholarship Gala

“Embracing Opportunity” is the theme of South Plains College’s 23rd Annual Scholarship Gala that will be a virtual event on Feb. 26, 2021. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we will not be able to gather in person to raise scholarship funds for SPC students. Instead, you are invited to join us for a live-streamed event beginning at 6:30 p.m. that is open to the public. To join the live stream event, click here.

A quote attributed to Albert Einstein expands on the theme and serves as a reminder that support for SPC students may be needed now like never before.

“One can find variations of the quote ‘In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity,” said Julie Gerstenberger, director of development and alumni relations, “but the idea is consistent:  troubled times offer opportunities for us to help one another. We are in such a time.”

“The purpose of the event is unchanged,” she added. “The Gala is the college’s most important fundraiser for college-wide scholarships.”

Christy Hartin, SPC alumna and news anchor personality at KCBD TV Channel 11, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies for the program. Hartin will also share her story about her time as a student at SPC.

The program will include compelling student stories, musical entertainment provided by students and alumni and a presentation on how the college has responded to meeting the needs of students during the pandemic.

The South Plains College Foundation Board of Directors will recognize the philanthropy of Larry and Mary Montgomery of Carrollton, Georgia, as the recipients of the 2021 Pacesetter Award. A special video presentation will introduce this year’s honorees and tell the story of their motivation for supporting the college. The Montgomerys are also serving as Underwriting Partners for the Gala.

One of the most popular segments of the Gala is the silent auction that features unique gifts, treasures and collectibles. The silent auction will be conducted online and will open Monday, Feb. 22 so supporters will have several days to enjoy the excitement of placing bids. To register to bid on silent auction items, click on the image above to register as a bidder.

Among the more sought after silent auction items will be an Kansas City Chiefs jersey that is autographed by quarterback Patrick Mahomes (#15) that will be encased in deluxe frame. The item has been donated by Brian Lewis and Tanner Terrell of Edward Jones Investments in Levelland.

Sponsorship levels are Underwriting Partner - $7,500; Diamond Sponsor $5,000; Ruby Sponsor - $2,000; Sapphire Sponsor - $1,000; and Pearl Sponsor - $500; and Gold Sponsor - $125. Because this year’s Scholarship Gala is a virtual event, sponsorships and donations are 100 percent tax deductible. Sponsorships and donations to scholarship funds may be made online by clicking on the "Become a Sponsor" or the "Donate Now" buttons above.

All Gala proceeds will go directly to student scholarships. “The SPC Foundation will provide more than $1 million in scholarship awards this academic year. For many students, scholarship support is the pivotal factor on which their decision to attend college is made. Guests who join us for this live stream event will have an enjoyable time knowing they are helping increase opportunities for students to attend South Plains College,” Gerstenberger said.
