Phillips 66, Sentinel Transportation support SPC’s purchase of Kenworth truck

South Plains College’s purchase of a 2018 Kenworth T880 for its diesel service technology program was made possible by the generous support of Phillips 66 in Levelland and Sentinel Transportation in Sundown.

Phillips 66 donated $3,300 for the delivery of the truck from Billings, Montana, to SPC’s Levelland campus. The College purchased the truck (valued at $60,000) from Sentinel Transportation for a reduced cost of $10,000, providing a resource to diesel students that offers a valuable learning experience with real-world tech.

“To me, this 2018 Kenworth is more than a machine; it is a tool of discipline that will sharpen our students through real hands-on training,” Marie Flores, SPC diesel service technology program coordinator, said. “I'm grateful for any resource that transforms our students into real-world technicians.”

For Josh Sehon, manager of Sentinel Transportation’s terminal in Sundown, diesel mechanics are in high demand, and learning tools, like the Kenworth truck, fill a need.

“We’re happy to partner with SPC and Phillips 66 to make sure the students get the education they need,” Sehon said.

Isaac Castillo, operations supervisor at Phillips 66, said funding the delivery of the truck to SPC is an opportunity for them to continue supporting the community in which they operate.

“It’s the students,” Castillo said regarding the reason for this partnership. “Getting these students qualified with the right training is necessary for when they enter the industry.”
