Space available for SPC’s upcoming Certified Nurse Aide class

 

LEVELLAND – Space is available for South Plains College’s upcoming Certified Nurse Aide Training starting Sept. 16 (Monday) through Oct. 16 in Room 117 in the Technical Arts Building. Enrollment is limited to 10 students. 

Kim Hill, R.N., will be the instructor. The textbook to be used is “Skills and Techniques for the New Nursing Assistant, 8th Edition by Barbara Gillogly. Tuition costs $500. Students also will be responsible for the State Exam Fee $104.50. 

The course provides detailed education, training and work-based experience as well as direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. On-site clinical instruction, supervision, evaluation and placement is the responsibility of the college faculty. 

The classroom schedule is from 5 p.m.. to 9 p.m.. throughout the five week course. Class meeting days are Sept. 16-19 for the first week (16 hours); Sept. 24-26 for the second week (12 hours); Oct. 1-3 for the third week (12 hours); Oct. 8-10 for week four (12 hours); and Oct. 15-16 for week five (eight hours). 

Clinical will be announced. Students will learn the necessary skills to work in long-term care, home health or hospital environments. Upon completion of the 60 hours of classroom and 40 hours of clinicals, each student will be required to take the State of Texas Certified Nurse Aide Competency Examination. 

IMPORTANT: Students must provide proof of immunization for MMR since 1981, Tetanus not older than 10 years, Hepatitis B Series, Varicella or proof of chicken pox, and possess a current negative TB test not older than 12 months, photo identification and social security card prior to enrollment. A criminal background check will be performed for all students.
