SPC Creative Arts 50th Anniversary Celebration set for Oct. 30 to Nov. 1
LEVELLAND – South Plains College will soon celebrate 50 years of creativity, talent and community within its Creative Arts Department during a three-day celebration filled with live performances, historical storytelling and social activities.
The Creative Arts Department’s 50th Anniversary Celebration is free and open to the public from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 on the Levelland campus. Festivities will take place in the Creative Arts Building and on the main stage, located in the parking lot south of the SPC Texan Track. “We’re so excited to celebrate the people across the 50 years of the Creative Arts Department,” Matt Quick, SPC professor in sound technology, said. “We hope alumni will have an incredible experience sharing their memories and reuniting to play music together.”
Festivities on Oct. 30 and 31 will begin at 9 a.m. with a series of breakout sessions where attendees will learn about the history of SPC’s Creative Arts Department and its talented students and alumni. Evening concerts featuring students and alumni will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on the first two days south of the track. SPC and the Creative Arts Department will also host the Levelland Main Street and Noon Lions Club Trunk or Treat as part of the Halloween celebration on Oct. 31.
From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the final day of the celebration, the department will feature performances by Country Caravan, Thursday Nite Live, the Touring Ensemble, Western Swing, Praise Ensembles and students specializing in bluegrass, jazz and electronic music. These performances will take place in the parking lot south of the track, where attendees can also eat tasty snacks from the nearby food trucks and view wares from local businesses participating in the Alumni Market.
