SPC’s Firearms Range opens to public on April 4

LEVELLAND – The Firearms Range in the Law Enforcement Department at South Plains College will resume operations for the public to utilize the facility beginning April 4 (Monday). Anyone wishing to use the range must possess either a license to carry (LTC) permit issued by the State of Texas, be a licensed peace officer or a participant (student) has attended a Basic Firearms course (CJLE 1211) at SPC.

The range will be open on Mondays from 4 to 7 p.m.. For members of the community, the cost is $4. For SPC students, faculty and staff, the cost is $1.

The newly renovated range provides more safety for participants than the previous range. According to Kenny Burns, department chairperson for professional services and energy, “The repairs to the range were completed this month, and we want to let everyone know that it’s back.”

Open range will be available throughout the remainder of the spring semester. The updated facility uses crushed rubber berm from recycled car tires to stop bullets, and the bullets will be collected.
