SPC Basic Firefighter Academy seeks applicants

 

LUBBOCK – South Plains College Fire Academy is accepting applications for the 2019-2020 academic year. The academy will run from Aug. 26 through May 6, 2020. 

Space is limited to only 25 applicants. 

Applications are available online at www.southplainscollege.edu/fireacademy. Go to the bottom of the page and click on “Apply Now.”

Individuals interested in trying out for the academy must submit the academy application which is different from the general SPC application required of all incoming SPC students. Persons with prior military service, females and minority applicants are encouraged to apply. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Individuals with TSI exemptions can choose to submit their grades or re-take the test to try to score higher. The higher score will be accepted.

This course is designed for anyone interested in a career as a firefighter in the municipal, state or federal fire service. After the completion of the academy and additional medical training, students become eligible to test for state firefighter certification. 

The SPC Fire Academy meets at the Lubbock Fire Department Training Academy, 1515 E. Ursuline St. The academy classes meet from 6 p.m.. to 10 p.m.. on Monday through Thursday, and on every other Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m..
