The Vera Sue Spencer Award is presented to a SPC female student who demonstrates the qualities of outstanding leadership and service to the college and community. The cash award was established by Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Spencer in memory of their daughter, Vera Sue, who died while Dr. Spencer was president of SPC. The award was established by the Spencer Family in 1971, and recipients are recognized each year at commencement.

Fowler, a graduate of Sundown High School, followed her brother, Caleb Fowler, to SPC where he received a degree in Industrial Manufacturing and Emerging Technology.

"I chose SPC because the people are so welcoming and it makes it so easythe process of applying to college and applying for scholarships," she said. "SPC is more of a home than just a college."

Fowler said she decided to pursue a degree in business because she already operates a small jewelry business, LB’s Design. She said she realized her classroom experience would be very beneficial for her own company.

Fowler said she credits herself overall for the many accomplishments she has achieved while attending school, working full time and owning her own business, because she is the one

who put in the work to achieve the goals.

"With that being said, I absolutely would not be the young woman and student I am today without the teachers I have met throughout my years at SPC, as well as the support of my family," she said.

"My goal in life is very realistic," she said. "Of course, I want to be successful, and one day open a storefront for my jewelry business, LB’s Designs. But most of all, I want to enjoy life and the things I do in this life.”

Fowler is a member of the Fifth Street Baptist Church. She has been listed on both the Deans’ and President’s lists. She made the Deans’ list in Fall 2021 and the President’s List in Spring 2021.

Fowler is the daughter of Levelland natives Bradley and Jill Fowler. Bradley works at the Hockley County Courthouse and Jill is an administrative assistant at SPC Health Sciences. Fowler was recently hired as an admissions clerk at SPC.
