SPC Reese Center to recognize 14 LVN graduates for completion of program

REESE CENTER – The Vocational Nursing Program of South Plains College Reese campus announced that 14 vocational nursing students will complete their nursing program on Friday (Aug. 14). Completing the program will make the student eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) to become licensed in the State of Texas.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students will not be awarded their pin in a pinning ceremony at the college. Instead, students will have their own individual ceremonies with family and friends.

According to Korbi Berryhill, VN Program Director, students experienced additional challenges to learning this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Not only did the students have to learn nursing, they suddenly had to learn in an online environment and virtual simulations,” said Berryhill. “It was really a challenge, but these students really stepped up.”

Berryhill also attributed success to University Medical Center who allowed students to complete their clinical rotations this summer. Students were given the choice to return or wait to return to clinicals later after the pandemic was over, however, all of these students were ready to meet the challenge today of health care, she said.

The faculty also were commended for suddenly having to convert every lecture, presentation, demonstration and test to an online environment.

Included in the list of graduates is Stephanie Rios, Perryton; Alicia Sanchez, Dimmitt; and Jessica Critelli, Albuquerque, N.M.

Lubbock graduates include Selena Benavides, Christine Crosby, Noelia Glidewell, Meagan Goble, Whitney Gonzalez and Madison Logan. Others are Martin Pedroza, Cristina Vega, Lisabeth Vickers, Courtney Warner and Kiriean Wludyka.

The Vocational Nursing Program is an intensive one-year program that prepares the graduate to become an LVN by passing the NCLEX-PN examination.
