SPC to host Martin L. King, Jr., birthday celebration on Jan. 21

 

LEVELLAND – South Plains College Student Life will host a birthday celebration in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 6 p.m.. Tuesday (Jan. 21) in the Sundown Room. 

The event is open to the public and South Plains College students, faculty and staff. 

The event will include a tribute to Dr. King by the Black Student Union organization at SPC.  

Dr. King was a minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. The Nobel Peace Prize recipient is credited with advancing Civil Rights through non-violence and civil disobedience. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. In 1971, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day was established as a holiday. 

Refreshments, cake and finger foods will be served.
