South Plains College to serve as host site, training location for OSHA courses in February

 

LEVELLAND – South Plains College will serve as a host training organization for The UT Arlington OSHA Education Center offering occupational safety and health courses in spring 2020. The classes are provided by The University of Texas at Arlington. 

There will be four courses offered quarterly throughout the year. The courses will include: 

  • Fall Protection, OSHA #3115, Feb. 18-20, 2020;
  • Standards for Construction, OSHA #510, May 19-22, 2020;
  • Permit-Required Confined Space, OSHA #2264, Aug. 25-27, 2020; and,
  • Standards for General Industry, OSHA #511, Dec. 1-4, 2020. 

The OSHA #3115- Fall Protection course covers the OSHA Fall Protection Standards for construction and general industry as well as current fall protection methods. Course topics include principles of fall protection, components and limitations of fall arrest systems, and OSHA Standards and policies regarding fall protection. Students will participate in workshops demonstrating the inspection and use of fall protection equipment, residential construction fall protection, training requirements and developing a fall protection program. 

The OSHA #510- Standards for Construction course covers the OSHA standards for the construction industry found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1926 along with other relevant policies, procedures, safety and health principles for the construction industry. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous and most frequently cited by OSHA. Students learn to select the appropriate OSHA standards that apply to a hazard, identify elements of a successful construction safety program, identify the more frequently cited OSHA standards and implement an effective recordkeeping procedure. 

The OSHA #2264- Permit-Required Confined Space course covers the safety and health hazards associated with permit-required confined space entry. Course topics include recognition of confined space hazards, identification of permit and non-permit required confined spaces, use of instrumentation to evaluate atmospheric hazards, ventilation techniques, developing and implementation of a confined space program, proper signage and training requirements. This course features workshops on permit entry classification, instrumentation and program development. 

The OSHA #511- Standards for General Industry course covers the OSHA standards for general industry found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910 along with other relevant policies, procedures as well as safety and health principles for general industry. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous and most frequently cited by OSHA. Students will select the appropriate OSHA standards that apply to a hazard, identify elements of a successful safety and health program, identify the more frequently cited OSHA standards and implement an effective recordkeeping procedure. 

These courses will be held in the Technical Education building in Room 141 on the Levelland campus. Each course will cost $595 per person.
