SPC Basic Firefighter Academy seeks applicants

 

LUBBOCK – Applications are available for the 2018-2019 South Plains College Fire Academy. The academy is schedule to run from Aug. 27 through May 7, 2019. Only 25 applicants will be accepted through a competitive application process. 

Applications are available online at www.southplainscollege.edu/fireacademy. Go to the bottom of the page and click on “Apply Now.” 

Individuals interested in trying out for the academy must submit the academy application which is different from the general SPC application required of all incoming SPC students. People with prior military service, females and minority applicants are encouraged to apply. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. 

This course is designed for anyone interested in a career as a firefighter in the municipal, state or federal fire service. After the completion of the academy and additional medical training, students become eligible to test for state firefighter certification.  

The SPC Fire Academy meets at the Lubbock Fire Department Training Academy located at 1515 E. Ursuline St. The academy meets from 6 p.m.. to 10 p.m.. on Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. every other Saturday.
