Professional Development Faculty Travel Stipend

South Plains College is excited to announce the launch of the Professional Development Travel Stipend program. This competitive award provides funding for faculty to attend conferences, workshops, and trainings that enhance teaching and learning across Arts & Sciences, Technical Education, and Allied Health.

What’s Included

  • Up to $2,500 per award

  • Covers registration, travel, lodging, and per diem (as applicable)

  • Four awards available annually

  • Faculty must present their learning within one semester of the funded event (e.g., SPC Professional Development Day, division meeting, or faculty workshop)

Criteria

Only professional development opportunities in the 48 contiguous United States that do not conflict with two or more instructional days will be considered. Exemptions may apply with approval from chair and dean.

Who Should Apply

This stipend is designed for SPC faculty who want to:

  • Bring new practices, strategies, or innovations back to their classrooms and programs

  • Positively impact student enrollment, retention, completion, and placement

  • Strengthen equitable opportunities for diverse and special populations

  • Contribute to SPC’s culture of continuous improvement and collaboration

Application Process

  • Two application cycles per year

    • Fall Call → for spring/summer travel

    • Spring Call → for summer/fall travel

  • Applications are evaluated by the PD Committee using a scoring rubric that considers:

    • Student impact

    • Alignment with SPC goals

    • Fairness across varied population groups

    • Evaluation plan with measurable outcomes

    • Dissemination plan

    • Matching funds / cost sharing

    • SPC Professional Development participation
