Initial (First-Time)International Students
Requirements:
(Note: All documents must be submitted in English)
- Application: Complete an International Student Application.
- Application Fee: A $100 non-refundable application fee (in U.S. currency) is required before consideration of an application can be made. You will receive directions on how to pay this fee after your application has been received and processed.
- Evidence of English proficiency is required from official non-English speaking countries. This can be satisfied by
submitting results from one of the following:
- Test of English as a Foreign language (TOEFL)
- Minimum score of a 550 (paper exam), 213 (computer exam), 79 (internet-based exam), or a 4 (internet-based exam, taken on or after January 21, 2026). Scores are only valid for 2 years.
- International English Language Testing Service (IELTS)
- Minimum score of a 6.5 on the Academic version; general training results are not acceptable. Scores are only valid for 2 years.
- Duolingo English Test
- Minimum score of 100. Scores only valid for 2 years
- Manchester Exam (MEXAM)
- Minimum score of 400. Scores only valid for 2 years
- Test of English as a Foreign language (TOEFL)
- Transcript: An official transcript from the last four (4) years of secondary school must be submitted. The official transcript must be an original copy translated into English and must show each course completed along with the grade earned.
Note: An unofficial copy of the transcript may be accepted temporarily for application to be reviewed. If accepted, student is required to submit the official transcript to the International Student Office upon arrival.
Do not send transcripts, diplomas, certificates or any other academic credential that cannot be duplicated or replaced. All documents become the property of South Plains College and will not be returned to the student.
- Copy of Passport (needed for I-20).
- Financial Ability: Proof of financial ability to remain at South Plains College must be submitted with the application. Proof can be in the form of a bank statement (minimum of $15,000 USD) within the last six months along with a typed and signed letter from the sponsor responsible for providing financial support or the form I-134, Affidavit of Support; an I-134, Affidavit of Support can only be completed if sponsor is a U.S. citizen. An additional $5,000 USD is required for each individual dependent.
7. Vaccine: Proof of MENINGITIS VACCINATION is required for enrollment by the state of Texas, if under the age of 22.
The application process will take about 10-12 business days if all required documents
are submitted by the deadline.
THE I-20 FORM WILL NOT BE ISSUED UNTIL ALL SPECIFIED REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN SATISFIED.
