Kinesiology
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is an academic discipline that involves the science and study of human movement, which is more important to society today than ever before due to the increasing rates of chronic illnesses and obesity. Areas of study in this field include exercise science, sport management, athletic training, physical education teacher certification, biomechanics and pre-professional training for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other related health fields. Kinesiology is one of the fastest growing majors in the country. This demand is fueled by the need for professionals in allied health sciences, for which Kinesiology is the appropriate undergraduate degree. Reports show that the demand for Kinesiology-related professions will increase for years to come. The Kinesiology program at South Plains College is designed to help prepare students for transfer to a university in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in this field. Among the numerous opportunities available, an associate degree in our program will equip students with the necessary skills for a variety of professions, including athletic training, sport-health-fitness management, coaching, teaching, as well as working in physical or occupational therapy careers.
