South Plains College names 2019 Distinguished Alumni honorees

 

LEVELLAND – South Plains College announces the selection of Kathy Hutchinson and Brett Taylor as the 2019 Distinguished Alumni honorees.

 

A come-and-go Presidential Reception will be hosted from 5 to 5:45 p.m.. on May 9 (Thursday) in the T-Club of the Texan Dome. There is no admission charge and, the public is welcome to attend. 

“Being able to recognize these outstanding former students is such an honor,” said Stephanie Smith, SPC alumni coordinator. “We have a wonderful Recommendation Committee comprised of SPC alumni, faculty and staff who read through all of the nominations to present to our College president for final selection. It’s truly no easy task because there are so many wonderful and deserving alumni nominated each year.”

Hutchinson is a 1977 graduate of SPC and currently serves as the Director of Special Education at the South Plains Educational Co-Op. She received her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Home Economics with a minor in higher education from Texas Tech University. She advocates for children with special needs by making sure the educational system supports them in an equitable and effective manner. 

Taylor is a 1980 graduate of SPC and is the Owner and Founder of Taylor Companies. He received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration – Petroleum Land Management with a minor in petroleum geology from the University of Texas at Austin. He has more than 36 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. 

The honorees will be the special guests at the 2019 SPC Employee Recognition Banquet and will be the honored platform guests during the 61st Annual Commencement Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. in the Texan Dome.
