South Plains College announces fall 2019 enrollment figures

LEVELLAND – South Plains College officials recently announced the fall 2019 enrollment numbers. As of the official 12th day of classes, enrollment across all SPC campuses is 9,196 for fall 2019 – down 1.1 percent or 104 students. The enrollment for fall 2018 was 9,311.

“Enrollment was slightly down for the fall 2019 semester. Enrollment at all locations of the college continues to be a challenge in light of a very robust job market,” said Dr. Robin Satterwhite, president of South Plains College. “As I’ve noted before, community college enrollment is directly correlated to unemployment rates. As unemployment decreases or remains at very low levels, community college enrollment is also typically lower.

“While our enrollment is slightly down, South Plains College has maintained fairly strong enrollment overall in light of this strong employment market. This can be attributed to strong marketing efforts and a commitment by our faculty to provide as many educational opportunities as possible,” he said. “We also continue to identify ways to increase our enrollment opportunities across the college.”

South Plains College has averaged around 9,500 students annually.

“Our mission of improving the lives of students remains the same, however, as we prepare for a very successful fall semester,” Dr. Satterwhite said.
