SPCAA endows SPC scholarship in honor of Joe Dee Brooks
South Plains Community Action Association endowed a South Plains College scholarship
honoring the late Joe Dee Brooks, a beloved Levelland native and 2023 SPC Pacesetter
Award honoree.
Brooks was an SPC alumnus who founded Allied Oilfield Machine and Pump, a Levelland-based company that has provided the latest oil and gas technology to customers across West Texas, New Mexico and other parts of the United States since 2003. Outside of work, he dedicated his time to the community by serving on multiple organizations, including SPCAA, where he was board president.
“During his time, Mr. Brooks was incredibly instrumental in expanding our service area. Under his tenure as board president, SPCAA doubled its counties of service and multiplied the number of individuals assisted,” SPCAA Executive Director Bill Powell said. “With this SPC scholarship, our hope is that students will be empowered in their educational journey for generations to come.”
As a longtime supporter of SPC, Brooks has impacted students in many ways. A donation from the former SPC Foundation Board member funded the expansion of the college’s Welding Building, increasing the number of welding stations to 80 and allowing more students to earn their welding degrees and certifications.
During SPC’s 25th annual Scholarship Gala, the college presented Brooks with the 2023 Pacesetter Award, recognizing his exemplary support that has made a difference in the lives of SPC students.
