SPC Livestock Judging Team wins multiple 2023-24 awards

LEVELLAND – During the 2023-24 academic year, the South Plains College Livestock Judging Team won many team and individual awards. SPC’s nationally renowned livestock judging program is backed by decades of success and continues to earn accolades in state, national, and international competitions.

Led by Coach Connor Brew, the team consists of Lane Sheehan of Madera, California; Hance Albracht of Amarillo; Lexi Hunt of Buckeye, Arizona; Ashton Willis of Shirley, Indiana; Mason Ward of Corpus Christi; Dakota David of Pilot Point; and Jackson Harlan of Bells. Members of the team won many noteworthy awards.

Hunt was the No. 1 Junior Collegiate Academic All-American, which is the first time an SPC student has earned this achievement. She was recognized as a High Individual at the North American International Livestock Exposition and Stockman’s Sort and was a Reserve Individual at the American Royal and Dixie National. She also was among the top 10 overall at the National Western Stock Show, Cattlemen’s Congress, State Fair of Texas, Flint Hills Classic and Cimarron Classic.

David was recognized as High Individual at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and the Texas Braunvieh Field Day and among the top 10 at the North American International Livestock Expo.

Albracht finished out the season as High Individual in Placings at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

The team’s achievements in 2023-24 included:

  • San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo- Reserve Champion Team Overall
  • Cattlemen’s Congress- 4th Overall Team
  • American Royal- 5th Overall Team
  • National Western- 6th Overall Team
  • Oklahoma Stockman’s Sort- 4th Overall Team

“This team not only accomplished great achievements in multiple competitions, but what I found most impressive was their ability to compete at this level while succeeding academically,” Brew said.
