SPC announces winners of second-annual Songwriter Competition

LEVELLAND – South Plains College’s Commercial Music Department deemed Hadlie Jo Pritchard and Jonny Hughes winners in the high school/under 18 and adult divisions, respectively, of the second-annual Songwriter Competition on April 4.

The purpose of the event was to foster the songwriting community in West Texas. SPC faculty judged the song entries and selected finalists to perform at the competition.

Finalists in the adult division (age 18 and older) included Andrea Alvarez, Tristan Graves, Emily Kocak, Sierra Melass, Brad Miles, Chris Mitchell, Ryan

Runquist, Riley Solberg and Russell Thompson. Finalists in the high school division (ages 14 to 17) included Drake Cagle, Caleb Gilbreath, Marie King, Maddie Reid, Caleb Seale and Jarrett Wideman.

The winners received a prize package courtesy of the event’s sponsors: Casita Creative, Cactus Theater, Flatland Media, Johnny Velvet and the Lubbock Entertainment and Performing Arts Association.
