Web Privacy Policy
South Plains College has created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our
firm commitment to privacy. We do not actively share personal information gathered
from our web servers. However, because South Plains College is a public institution,
some information collected from the SPC web site, including summary server log
information, emails, and information collected from web-based
forms, may be considered public information under the Texas Public Information Act and subject to
release. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices
for the College website: www.southplainscollege.edu.

Personal Information Provided to SPC
Our site uses forms for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to request information,
products, and services. South Plains College does not retain personally identifiable
information about you when you visit our web sites unless you choose to provide such
information to us (i.e. sending an email, participating in a survey, responding to a request
for information or “contact us” form, etc.). We consider any information that could
reasonably be used to identify you as “personally identifying information” such as contact
information and unique identifiers. This information is used for College business, such as
registration for classes and/or communicating with current or potential students, and
includes, but is not limited to:
•name
•address
•email address
•Social Security Number
•Any combination of data that could be used to identify you such as your birthdate,
your zip code and your gender.

If you send us an electronic mail message with a question or comment that contains
personally identifying information, or fill out a form that e-mails us this information, we
will only use the personally-identifiable information to respond to your request and
analyze trends. We may redirect your message to another or person who is in a better
position to answer your question. We do not collect information from such
communications for any purpose other than to respond to you. We do not collect
information for commercial marketing.

If a student does not wish for this public information (directory information) to be released, he/she is responsible for notifying the Admission and Records Office, located in
the Student Services Building, in writing by the 12th class day of each regular semester and the 4th class day of the summer term. South Plains College complies with the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which prohibits release of educational records without student permission.

Information SPC Gathers
South Plains College may also collect and store information automatically from all users
accessing the SPC web site to browse or download information. This information may
include the following:
•Internet address of computer being used
•Web pages requested
•Referring web page
•Date and time
•Type of web browser being used.


We may use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our web server, and to
administer our Web site. We use cookies to collect information for collective analytics
only. Individual information is not harvested. (Note: A cookie file contains unique
information a web site can use to track such things as passwords, lists of pages you've
visited, and the date when you last looked at a specific page or to identify your session
at a particular web site.)


For site management functions, information is collected for analysis and statistical
purposes. This information is not reported or used in any manner that would reveal
personally identifiable information, and will not be released to any outside parties
unless legally required to do so in connection with law enforcement investigations or
other legal proceedings.

Public Forums
This site makes chat rooms, forums, message boards, and/or news groups available to its
users. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes
public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your
personal information. Security and Accuracy of Personal and Confidential Information
Although no computer system is 100 percent secure, South Plains College has deployed
extensive security measures to protect against loss, misuse or alteration of the
information under our control. If you are concerned about the accuracy of information
contained in your personal records, you should refer to the appropriate custodian of
record. The Admissions and Records Office is the custodian of all records for currently
enrolled students and for all official academic records. The Vice President for Student
Affairs is the custodian of all other student records. The Human Resources Director is the
custodian of all employee records.

The College Web site contains links to other non South Plains College organizations that
are provided solely as a service to our users. South Plains College (www.southplainscollege.edu) is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content
of web sites outside of the control of SPC. These links do not constitute an endorsement of these organizations or their programs by South Plains College, and none should be inferred.
