DIA. Texas Teacher Retirement System


All classifications of employees who meet eligibility requirements are required to participate in Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) or Optional Retirement Program (ORP).


Employment which makes you eligible for membership in TRS is:

Regular employment in a public, state-supported educational institution in Texas that is expected to last for a period longer than 4 ½ months,

For on-half or more of the standard full time workload (20 hours or more per week), and

With compensation paid at a rate comparable to the rate of compensation for other persons employed in similar positions.


Participating employees will contribute a percentage of their pay by way of payroll deductions to the plan. The State of Texas will contribute a percentage of the participants pay to the plan. Ratio of contributions is set by the Texas Legislature and is subject to change.
